Default Moving from NY

Hello,

It looks like I will be moving to L.A. sometime in the next year. My band is relocating to CA. I would love to be on the beach and was curious as to what area would be good to go to without it being too sketchy.

Just a quick thing about myself I am a 26 year old Librarian, Drummer, and artist. I am looking for an area that has good music scene (rock n roll, punk, rockabilly etc.) good bars, places to eat, art galleries, fun places to shop, good people etc.

My original thought was Venice, but Long Beach seems to have cheaper rent. I'm from NY so I am used to ridiculous rent. Was just curious as to why? Thank you in advance for any help and hope to see you soon in L.A.!

I think the low(er) rents in Long Beach are probably due to it being quite a distance from Los Angeles proper, as well as having several less-than-desirable areas.

Feel free to look around, but my hunch is that Hollywood is probaby going to end up being a better choice.

Hollywood has just the right level of sketchyness that it would be a pretty cool place to hang out when you are a 26 year old drummer in a band.

You also might some of this useful here as you are trying to compare neighborhoods.
