Default Where do young people live in Los Angeles?

I'm 19 years old and I'm moving from Missouri to California in the next year. I would like to know in what area of los angeles do most young adults settle in?

In LA, their parents house. Housing is crazy expensive.

Young people living on their own in Los Angeles usually share an apartment with others, many times two to a bedroom.

It depends on their finances. Fun areas, if that is what you mean, can be the Fairfax area with lots of funky shops and The Grove, Hollywood area, Melrose, beach areas, Los Feliz(very popular) Pasadena,Studio City. I'm sure I have missed a million more but this is what came to mind. I mentioned these areas not based on price but things to do and walk to. My neice moved to the Fairfax area near Cantor's Deli after college and loved it there. Los Feliz has a fun vibe too with lots of funky restaurants and shops including some fun night spots. Unless you have bucks, look for a safe roomate situation or rent a room in a nice house. Lots of guest houses in L.A. for rent. I feel like a broken record but most people from out of town don't know about Craiglist.com for rentals, selling and buying, jobs and chatting.

If you do go to craigslist, make sure you use craigslist.org instead of craiglist.com. There's a difference

Melrose, and other parts of Hollywood, and West Hollywood, are still the hottest young core of the city, also Westwood, Los Feliz, Silverlake, Santa Monica, Venice, Beach cities, and the Valley along Ventura corridor.

Echo Park also, although there are parts of Echo Park I would definitely NOT recommend (i.e. the area by the lake is still rather nasty). Other parts are perfectly fine (i.e. north of Sunset). "Echo Parque" has seen a pretty big infusion of young people priced out of the areas you named, in particular people priced out of Silver Lake and Los Feliz.

As Los Feliz born, my impression about Echo is a nasty place, where I never should go!! Now, i really dont know, never go south of Sunset there!!!

Understood.

I have quite a few friends there, but they're all north of Sunset, and I personally wouldn't move south of Sunset at all. I certainly would try to move as far away from the lake as possible if I was going to move there.
