I've been checking out Craigslist over the past couple of months and found some studios for around $950 in the North Hollywood/Toluca Lake area - streets such as Whipple, Camarillo, Blix, Hartsook, Bloomfield and Otsego. Seems like a pretty good deal. What do you all think? Is there something I need to know about this area or am I actually on the right track??

I don't know those areas very well, but my gut feeling is they aren't bad at all. Where will you be working? I did a quick google street view and noticed a BMW place across the street from a Dunn golf place. Right off the bat, that's a good sign.

Haha, that's good news. I'm an actor (sorry) so I just have savings until I get the standard table waiting job!

If you have a specific address, try the LAPD's Crime Maps website -- you can check out the crimes committed within a specified radius for the last week. It won't tell you everything, but it'll give you a "snapshot" of what's going on in the area.

That sounds about right to me for a studio around those streets. I've driven down those areas frequently and they look quite nice.

if memory serves me, they are fine. Look for areas close to Riverside or Ventura Blvds, the closer the better.......stay away from Vanowen or Sherman Way....at least in the East part of the valley, probably in the West, but I don't know it as well. Anything that says Toluca Lake should be good.
Noho Arts District and Valley Village are generally good, well, cleaning up pretty good, check back with us...
