Default Looking for Suggestions on Renting

Hi LAites (or is it LAers),

I am moving to LA from San francisco. I will be working in the downtown area and my husband will need to commute to El segnudo for work. We are looking for a decent one bedroom apartment in a SAFE area with a reasonable commute (of about 30-40 mins each way). After our initial research, we have come with the following list of places to rent an apartment.Out upper limit is about $1600/month. We are looking for suggestions on the following places .How good or bad are they, in terms of safety? Any bad places that we need to stay away from??.Can we find something easily in these areas for about $1600/month?

1.Wilshire area (la brea and hancock park included)
2.Culver city
3.West Hollywood
4.Glendale
5.Venice and santa monica (I am not sure if we will be able to find anything decent for $1600/month)

Thanks

Culver City is a good spot for you i think. Its close to El Segundo....it may be longer for you to get to downtown, but its in good proximity to ElS.

Culver City is also cheaper than WLA.

The rule of thumb usually is the lower the rent, the worse the area.

1600 a month is a stretch. You are going to have to make sacrifices. 2k a month gets you something nice, 1600 you're going to have to work a bit to find something decent.

Glendale is way too far a commute to El Segundo, so that's not a good idea i don't believe.

For that money I'd go for Wilshire (areas you listed included).

Maybe Playa del Rey or Palms area? Sorry you have to leave San Fran though.

Geographically, I would think Culver City would be your best option. Just make sure you are in a decent part of Culver City, there are some sketchy pockets. You would be close to the 10 which you can take directly to downtown. Your husband would be close to El S. The areas around Sony studios is decent. You should be able to find a decent 1 bedroom for under 1600.00 if you look. I would check Craigslist.

Good Luck
