I agree with you. I was raised in the SFV and the areas I grew up in (Northridge/Granada Hills, La Crescenta) have a very tight sense of community. I have ALWAYS lived in a neighborhood where we had block parties at least once a year. Even the so-called "transplants" have a desire to fit in as this is the place where they want to set roots.

I'm being forced to leave the city of angels for love and to support my fiancee. I always thought I would die here and I was very happy about that.
Moving anywhere else will be slower, duller, less stimulating, less vibrant and less challenging. L.A. is it.

Well, I'm glad you found paradise in Arkansas.
I was born (but not raised) in China
I'd take Amsterdam or Hong Kong over anywhere in the US.
But I'd gladly take Shanghai over anywhere except California, NYC, or Chicago

The Inland Empire is by FAR the biggest recipient of Angelenos who leave the MSA.

People moving from Los Angeles move all over, taking their voting habits with them and turning their new city into Los Angeles.

The Inland Empire and Riverside County. I'd have to agree that this is where most move to. But, I have had relatives and friends move to Kansas, North Carolina, and Texas recently. Mostly for jobs and cost of living. If I were a retiree, I might consider moving, to get the most money from my retirement, even if my house was paid off.

before the bubble burst, it was phoenix and las vegas. cheaper housing i think.
