It is.
If you want to get away from L.A. and go to a place unlikely to turn into L.A., don't go to a place which attracts Southern Californians in any sizeable number.
Vermont is probably the least likely state to experience "Californication", IMO.

old high school friends (central L.A. origin) now live in Orange County, San Diego, Seattle. recent migration since early '90s, those without a lot of money, seeking jobs and affordable housing, have moved east to varying degrees...IE, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado. Migration from L.A. to Colorado and Arizona has altered voter registration balance (more Democrats).

I was in Vermont a few years ago, what a gorgeous state.
It was a shocking contrast to LA. Little to no cell phones, no big box stores, no low riders, no graffiti, I think less than a million people in the whole state.
Pristine natural beauty.
Tremendous constrasts for two states in the same country.

There are a TON of Californians coming to Austin, Texas. Many are coming from Los Angeles, and many others are coming from San Francisco, especially Silicon Valley (not surprising considering all the hi-tech jobs in Austin).

"Talk about a bulletproof economy. This northern Alabama city represents critical mass for the nation's missile-defense and aerospace industries. The medical and life-sciences industries are thriving, too. Thousands of new jobs are pouring into town. "
