When People Leave Los Angeles, Where Do They Go? (Riverside: to rent, condo)

I don't think many move to the Bay Area, well at least families. I think most of those who move to the Bay Area are young, single professionals because the cost of living in the Bay Area is quite high also.

I've contemplated moving further inland (i.e. San Bernardino County or Riverside County) as an option since the home prices have significantly dropped if not crashed out their. However, even with the lower gas prices, you would have to find new jobs out their as commuting in from the 210, 10, or 60 is nearly impossible unless you like leaving your house at 4-5AM or be stuck in traffic for up to 1.5-2 hrs.

All in all, i think it's chewing away the quality of life I grew up with as a child living in LA County. Times have changed. I used to look at NYC and SF as being "not so family friendly" in terms of cost and quality of family living, now I'm going to add LA to that list. That's unless we're all MD's or Esq's. I was reading in another post about a couple grossing $120K/year with 1 kid and a poster remarked that's middle class nowadays and I think he's right.

Gone are the days our father's worked and brought home the bread and our mothers were stay at home moms ready to pick us up from school and helped us with homework and made dinner while we played outside.

Have you considered somewhere like Sacramento? If you have family in LA, its not that far away and since the housing bust collapsed, it has became suprisingly affordible. In terms of climate it reminds me a lot of living in the San Fernando Valley. It can get warm at times in the summer time, but the winters are faily temperate.

There other negatives: traffic, school challenges, decaying infrastructure - and these are in some of the nicer areas too. Even if housing became as low as the rest of the country, some people would still not want to live in Los Angeles.

Another Don Lapre here in Florida. Entrepreneurial young men that act like old men. The seem to gravitate to this place. So what are you going to do now, nothing? That sounds exciting. I wish I was in Van Nuys, with all the porn stars.

Yes. Even with the dough, you're still breathing the same smog, stuck in the same awful traffic on the 10, 60, 405, 5, 101, 110, 210, 605, 710, 105, 57, 22, 55 (did i miss any?). Demographics are changing and the stats are going down not up in terms of income, education, and probably happiness.

we moved to CO, it sucks. were in the process of returning to CA. big home doesnt = happiness, air quality, traffic etc etc... every place has good and bad except for that place near nirvana CA has culture, diversity, character and charm.... ill rent an overpriced shack anyday over living in CO and owning my own home with acres of land. my advice to anyone thinking about leaving LA.... think long and hard about it cuz LA is pretty bad ass.
