Default Torrance to Westwood

I live in the Palos Verdes area and will be working in the Westwood area of Los Angeles.

Can someone please suggest what is the best way for me to commute to work? Public transportation is preferred, but will have to drive if no other good choice. How bad is driving from say Torrance (PCH and Hawthorn) to Westwood (Wilshire Blvd), at 6/7am? Thanks.

My sister in law lives in San Pedro (3 minutes from the 110) and drove to Westwood for work for a few months. A good day was only an hour and a quarter getting there in the morning. I think she left home about 7:30-7:45. After work, she'd often stay with friends in the area or screw around on the Internet at work until 7pm to let traffic die down a bit otherwise it would have been a couple hours getting home. I'm sure if public transportation were a viable option from her location she would have taken it but she drove instead.
