We're losing indie103.1
We are losing the only superior music station on radio airwaves that plays actual alternative, punk, metal, grunge, hardcore, reggae and new local stuff, KDLD indie103.1 fm.
I can't receive KXLU in the Valley, and KROQ remains a bad joke with its rotation of the same 8 or so songs endlessly.
I used to say the only things I will miss when I leave L.A. forever will be my friends and a few high-quality radio stations. Now it's just friends.

Terrestrial radio is officially dead. The new PPM method of delivering ratings, plus Indie's horrible signal range did them in. It's sad that the only stations that can survive have bands/artists that sell at least Gold albums. Americans will continue to like what is already popular. What is popular is usually garbage. (KROQ)

I stopped listening to Indie regularly a few months ago when I all I heard was Bloc Party, CSS, The Ting Tings, and The Cold War Kids in rotation. I think they caused their own demise.
I do still listen to Indie when I'm in a car, but I'm mostly listening to Jack FM these days.

BRinSM, the artists you list were only rotated under duress as of last November; plus what's wrong with newish artists like CSS and the Ting Tings? At least it's not the identical Nirvana and Chili Peppers songs you hear on KROQ, blleechhh, every hour on the hour. Car-wise, you won't hear any Indie any more. I used to make time to listen to Henry Rollins' veins-in-his-neck-bulging enthusiam, or the actual Sex Pistol, or the weekend reggae show, or Dave Navarro and his surprisingly radio-friendly dulcet tones...
If one is suggesting I spend a great deal of money for auxiliary devices with which to hear palatable music like punk rock while I drive, the answer is no. Some of us drive older cars...

Yeah, Indie did get a bit formulaic with their "top hits." That said, they also played a lot of classic songs as well, and outside of KCRW, it was one of few stations to find new alternative rock.

Time for satellite radio then.
Or get a mobile media device that syncs up to internet radio streams and records them for later listening

there is nothing wrong with these bands, i just don't like hearing the same songs over and over again. i didn't notice this with Indie until recently, such a shame. weren't they ranked as the coolest radio station in the country at one point?

Wow. Radio really does suck now.
105.5 KNAC was my favorite. I still like KROQ in the mornings with Kevin and Bean though. Power was good before they went all Mexican on us - started yelling out the call letters in spanish and just doing a bit too much to lure the spanish speaking crowd (even though most Spanish speakers listen to rap).
KLOS plays too much old music and I can only take so much of the old stuff. I find myself listening more to talk radio now instead of music stations anyway. Adam Carolla, Tom Leykis is much better than the crap you get on KIIS, KOST, etc.
