Smile Anything I'm forgetting?

I am currently living in Pennsylvania but will be moving to LA after I get my bachelors in Digital film making and video production(will basically qualify me for camera and lighting operation as well as film/video editing and script writing) and yes I know it isn't 100% nessicary but it and the internship that results would be nice for a resume.

I am being told by everyone all the negative aspects of LA and things I should take in to account.

-There are a lot of gangs -I don't care because I don't act or dress "gangsta" and know how to avoid areas. I live in Reading, Pennsylvania and have already met bloods and MS13s. I have no problem here.

-Traffic is bad- I plan on living near where I work and don't need agas guzzler..also maybe will get a motorcycle.

-There is bad air- Don't care

-It's dangerous/violent- I currently live in a mid size metropolitan area directly between NYC and Philly..Seriously if LA was a safe and comfortable I'd be scared.

-It isn't what it is on TV- Obviously you don't watch the Shield.

-the job market is bad- thats everywhere.

-It's fast paced and stressful- live fast=my motto

My dad went to LA and hated it...but his idea of paradise is flyover country.

People keep trying to convince me not to move there but I haven't heard any good reasons yet..if any one has any...

Traffic can be a problem (though it rarely bothers me). Otherwise I have yet to experience the "problems" you listed. It's a great town. You'll love it.

-It isn't what it is on TV- Show me a place that is what it is on TV.

-It's fast paced and stressful- I've been here all of my 53 years, and 27 of those were spent working in L.A. City, for L.A. City. I'm one of the slowest paced, least stressed individuals you'll ever meet. If you allow yourself to be stressed, you'll be stressed.

Do you dress like your dad?

Stop listening to "people". You won't know until you try it for yourself. If I had listened to "people" in my past, I wouldn't have experienced anywhere near the fun and interesting things and changes to my life that have happened.

You have a pretty good assessment of what it is like. Did you analyze housing costs, near where you may be working?

Get a motorcycle and zip between everyone else stuck in traffic on the freeway. I hate when they do that, but hey, you've got better manuverability than me and my hatchback.

Just make sure an emergency room is on the route.

Touche. I'm an ass in general, but whenever I saw one coming up on me in my rearview mirror while stuck in rush hour traffic, I was half-tempted to throw open my door to see if they'd hit it. Like I said, I hate when motorcyclists weave in and out of lanes like that because nine times out of ten, they're driving way too fast when almost everyone else is at a standstill.

The one real negative in moving to LA is making friends. People in LA (or any big American city) are friendly enough but probably aren't looking to make new friends. The way to get around this is to hang out with people that are also new to LA, and thus are also looking to make friends.

I dunno, I kind of disagree. Having lived in both Cincinnati and SoCal, seems the more people there are, the better chance you'll have of eventually making new friends. Cincinnatians for example, are terribly provincial (you're defined by what high school you went to). At least in LA, you're not the only new person in town.

Let's see... You left out "LA is so fake, anti-intellectual, materialistic, superficial, etc., etc." and "California is going to fall into the ocean." <eye rolling icon goes here>

LOL don't worry. The only negative I have experienced is the traffic. You'll be fine.
