Default Economics Grad from Canada

First off I would like to take the opportunity to thank the great work yall do on these forums. The information you provide is invaluable and very helpful. I am a 28 year old economics graduate from Canada contemplating a move to the West Coast. My questions are this how much startup money should I have? Job prospects for the business/financial sector? What would be the minimum salary to live comfortably? I am sure I have alot more questions but these are the particular ones that come to mind. Your help is greatly appreciated. Fire away!

Amazing these questions are coming from an economics graduate.

How much startup money should you have, for what?

When you searched for jobs, did you apply for any? How many? Did you have any interviews? How many? Did you get any offers? How many?

Have you consulted with your the academic faculty? What was their guidance? Are you a member of any professional organizations? Have you been published?

What does "comfortably" mean?

[quote=Charles;7042763]Amazing these questions are coming from an economics graduate. Whoa now no need for that tone..its just an exploratory question..

How much startup money should you have, for what? To facilitate a move to the region and the period covering a job search when/if i touch down..rent/living expenses/etc.

When you searched for jobs, did you apply for any? How many? Did you have any interviews? How many? Did you get any offers? How many? I started looking seriously a couple of weeks ago, applied to approximately 20+ jobs, did not hear back from any but will continue applying.

Have you consulted with your the academic faculty? What was their guidance? Are you a member of any professional organizations? Have you been published? The answer to all the above would be no. I have been out of school for about 4 years now. I am currently working as a Business Analyst in the telecommunications field.

What does "comfortably" mean? By that I mean being able to hang on to some disposable income after paying rent, utilities and other expenses.

Once again thanks for your help.

charles wasn't giving you an attitude. he was just stating the obvious. all you have to do is use the 'search' function and most you will find the answers to your questions.

imho, i wouldn't make the move right now. in fact, i wouldn't move anywhere unless i had a job secured. not many companies are hiring right now. competition for jobs is pretty fierce and i can't imagine someone who is not from the area (and not even from the US to boot) having a decent shot at landing a job when there are already plenty of qualified individuals with citizenship in LA.
