Where do I start...
Well, here's a few-
1- Not many Nascar hicks walking around
2- Most LA people mind their own business (eg. they don't stare at you)
3- Even the "older" people dress well compared to the midwest druids.
4- Better customer service than the midwest, contrary to pop belief.
5- If you make a mistake in traffic they may flip you off but usually don't follow you to your house and threaten to kill you for it, like here.
6- Open minded
7- Unshocked by things.
8- Drivers. I miss the way LA drivers go fast and go when the light turns green.

That's about it. I love the LA mentality. I miss it. I hate going into a store here and everyone has to stare or talk to you cuz they are so bored there's nothing else to do. I'll do anything to help someone, but I'm not big on smalltown smalltalk.

One of the things I like the most about LA people is this:

When someone comes up with a new idea or something original, people look at it and think "Interesting" or "????" They always see the endless possibilities and they aren't very judgmental.

In lots of other places, given the same idea, the people would think "Are you nuts? It'll never work" or "How weird! What a dumb idea!"

And I think that is why a lot of things (trends/new ideas) actually get started in California.

As a transplant here from 28 years ago, I will say this: L.A. people are characters, first and foremost. Whether standing next to them in a checkout line or sitting near them in a restaurant, you never know exactly what you're gonna hear or see from them. Amusing at times, disturbing at others.

I visited LA from Montreal, Canada back in march and I must say everyone was nice, especially when they knew I was French Canadian. Asking me questions and showing an interest. At one point I was looking for a nightclub to go to and I happened to pass in front of Skybar at the Mondrian Hotel and the bouncer politely asked me and my friend from LA if we were on the guest list and we said no, he said our name must be on the list or else we can't get in. I had told him I had just arrived from Montreal and I was visiting and he cracked a joke ''21 huh? im getting old!'' it was pretty funny the way he said it and he brought us in and was very polite with me and we talked a little bit.

Same story for San Francisco but being this is LA, i'll leave it to that.

Thanks to Laorbust61 for resurrecting this old thread (which was about a year and a half old). It is great reading and a wonderful counter-weight to all the L.A. bashers. Wish they could all read it, but then it wouldn't really change them because once a person has created an emotional connection to an irrational hatred (perhaps born of jealousy?), then that person's mind is made up for good.
