YAWN, 3.4 Marina del Rey
My son just came downstairs to get some more tortellini and asked if we felt the earthquake. Nada, but I guess there was a 3.4 off Marina del Rey 8 minutes ago so I know many of the westsiders will have felt it.

I felt it! At exactly 7:42pm I was sitting in a chair with my feet on the floor and felt a side to side jolt (my feet moved side to side with the floor).
I pulled up the google earth quake map and the epicenter was at the end of Venice Boulevard between Speedway and Pacific Ave.
I hate quakes! I'm having a scotch now!

i heard the window behind me rattle slightly, and just dismissed it as having some other cause that wasn't worth investigating.

As soon as I heard about it online at my humble apartment 500 miles to the north I called my mom in West LA to see if she was OK. She said everything was fine.

I live on the second floor of an apartment up in the valley...not that we would have felt one of that size from down there, but we're right off a major road (as in 30 feet) and I think I'm immune to any quake lower than a 4.0 because I keep assuming it's just a huge truck blowing by fast.
As long as no-one's hurt and nothing breaks, I think the quakes are fun, though.

seems like we're ramping up in quakes. the southland was pretty active(with larger quakes in the basin) from the 70s till early 90s.. then went dormant for a while. now we're shaking a little more frequently again in the basin.

We have been lucky for quite a while. Let's hope we only get "little" quakes.
