Hello everyone,

My wife and I are visiting the la area for a week in June and I was looking for some advice on where to stay. We are in our mid 20s and are planning to do some typical tourist activities, like seeing a couple of shows and taking a trip down to San Diego to visit the zoo. We would like to stay in one of the beach towns and be in walking distance to bars and the beach.

I've been checking out Manhattan Beach and Hermosa, but Hermosa seems to be a college crowd, correct me if I'm wrong. Santa Monica seems nice, but the hotels look expensive.

Thanks

For a trip to San Diego, I might suggest the coastal areas of Carlsbad and Encinitas. Not too far from San Diego 30-40 minutes drive, on the coast, etc. Also close to Legoland....you're never too old to see the "mini land"! Be careful staying down in San Diego - many areas (Hillcrest) are primarily homosexual and others are in the "red light" district. If you really want to splurge and stay within the city of San Diego, stay at the Hotel Del Coronado. You didn't say where you'll be visiting from but in California we have something called "june gloom". At the coast, it may not clear up (from being cloudy and cold) until noon or after. So, maybe staying inland would be a better option if you're just going to be visiting the beach.

Stay safe.

hotels near the beach are expensive, there is no getting around that, especially in santa monica. I would look into the hotels on Washington Blvd on the border of Venice and Marina Del Rey. There are a handful there and I'd imagine you could get a decent deal at atleast one of them.
