Default intersection of Flower st and 3rd

i keep reading all the stories about how unsafe LA including the downtown area. anyone who knows the area well could you tell me how relatively 'safe' the intersection of Flower st and 3rd is? by safe i mean i need to go down there while im in LA and was wondering what to expect from the area?

also i know the transport system isn't very good but is it safe to use?

any help is great!

is that downtown? Streets 1-6 or 7 are ok, it gets bad and 9th or 11th....you'll be fine. Our bus drivers are pretty helpful, if you ask them for help they are happy to help you get off at your stop and tell you where to catch the next bus, etc. It's safe during commute times...packed with other commuters...just dont ride it at night unless ofcourse your hotel is right where the stop is.
Where are you staying?

Downtown is safe from 1st to 12th for sure. Public transportation (especially the subway) is safe and reliable for short trips .

skid row is in the 5th/san pedro area...and that isnt too safe, especially those who dont know how to defend themselves.. so how can you generalize 1-12th streets?

3rd and Flower is fine. It's right by the Disney Concert Hall. Honestly, it's kind of a boring area. Just these huge office towers with very little going on at the street level for pedestrians. It's also a little bit of a walk from nearby Metro stations (Civic Center and Pershing Square are probably almost equal distance from this intersection), but I've walked much further in downtown.

What is there to do at 3rd and Flower? That's near the UCLA Extension but not much else (a few blocks up from the library).

this is exactly what i was going to say.

its pretty dead. that part is not lively like the lower parts of DT. if you are there you will be safe. for night life you have to walk south or east 4 to 5 blocks.

you will be fine walking around.
