With gas prices going up, banks foreclosing, and places out in the Inland Empire being hit hard by foreclosures, I wonder, if I moved to L.A., what far-away suburbs do you think would be the absolute worst places to end up in? Like, Lake Elsinore bad?

Where is the job? What time is the commute?

I did Thousand Oaks to Huntington Beach, 72 miles; that's about as bad as it can get. Guess what? I did it in 65 minutes one way. Why? Because I left at 5AM.

Coming home was a different story as I had a special case with my boss who let me leave mid day and telecommute for two hours from home.

It depends on the location of your job. Folks in the IE generally tend to work in OC. But even those commutes vary (Anaheim vs. Irvine).

I think Palmdale / Lancaster is all around terrible for commuting to downtown, and anything along the I-15 corridor is generally a tough sell for commuting to a major job hub.

If you are lucky enough to score a job "out there", congratulations. Otherwise, join the malaise on the freeways.

There are quite a few posts on Inland Empire commuting, debating good vs. bad, on the Riverside / San Berdoo forum...
