If you moved out tomorrow and bought a house in your "Choice B" location and your "Choice A" California location dropped in price 30% in the next two years, with all other things being equal (jobs, traffic, schools, etc) would you regret it?

My experience has been about 50/50-- half of my friends who've moved away have settled in where they are and half have boomeranged back. I think all of them miss L.A. I don't know anyone who regrets living in CA. But sometimes, it's time to move on and sometimes, it's the wrong decision.

I still work in L.A.; I just live somewhere else most of the time. For now. I'll boomerang back.

This is very cool. I never thought that when I started this thread that it would go to 11 pages. I think we can all agree that there's just "something" about L.A. that we can't escape from - even if we want to; or rather, we think we want to. I hope that makes sense.

But the lack of an In 'n Out Burger to me right now is just driving me insane. LOL.

It's impossible to answer that question because all other things aren't and would never be equal. If they were and housing dropped here the two places would be nearly identical minus physical/geographical differences that I enjoy about both places.

For me yes. If I could AFFORD it I would stay. It's just getting soooo hard to live out here and I really wish things were different. I do NOT look forward to moving b/c I know any place else (unless it's an island paradise) will be a big let down in comparison to So. California.

Default I know I have....I thought like you....

I'm on my way back and I don't care how many posts here say LA is bad, I MISS IT! I was there a couple of months ago and tried to go everywhere in two days!I was sitting in that traffic on the 101 around 6 pm and I was amazed I just sat there calm! HAPPY TO BE MY ASS BACK!EVEN THE DAMN TRAFFIC DIDN'T PHASE ME! Yeah LAS VEGAS SUCKS A$$! I mean major. The most boring place on the planet...unless you are into the gaming culture which is the only culture here.Talk about over freakin rated! No water, no ocean, and sand, no GREEN trees, rocks for a damn backyard, houses so damn close I can see my neighbors coochie on a good day without even straining. Why would they put bathroom windows right across from each other! I can't wait to get back to Cali! I admit I WAS WRONG!

Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder and you never appreciate what you have until you don't have it anymore. L.A. has its problems, we all know that, but it also has many, many, many great attributes - which I miss. I'm coming home! (I was born and raised in SoCal).
Now, if the state can only fix its budget problem so I can try and find some decent work.

Has anybody who left felt the same way and returned?

I am one of those people who got tired of LA. The smog, transportation, and the crap landlord I had etc. My car bit the dust while living there and couldn't afford to get a new one. So, I took the bus everywhere. I spent more time just on the bus than anything else. I had moved to LA to pursue and acting career and discovered how many bottom feeders were in LA. When I was given a chance to move out of LA and to another state I took it. I was just so burned out with that place.

Now, I am thinking of moving back. I know everything is more expensive now than when I lived there from 1977 to 1987. I just have a lot to think about before making the move. The first time I went, I just packed my bag and went now I have to think about it carefully.

Userdavey will become famous soon enough
If you have read my previous posts, you know that I have only vacationed to SoCal (Is that the best word?) 4 times but I plan on moving there someday. So I guess I don't really fit in this particular thread, but after reading some of these posts I am so moved. Reading about how people miss it there...I have never lived anywhere that made me feel that way. But I love LA. I can't even describe how it makes me feel. It has power. It has magic. It has a kind of surreal beauty that can never be put into words.

I can tell the story of my sister. She lived in Belmont Shore for a few years and then moved to La Mirada. She moved back to Albuquerque a few years ago for money reasons, but her daughters, who are in high school, protested and literally screamed and kicked and she actually let them move back out there to live with relatives. I remember the disgusted faces they made when I asked if they were glad to be in Albuquerque. My sister agreed that LA is just way too cool. Albuquerque was depression-ville compared to life out there. She understood their position. But she was tired of struggling with the money. Now she visits her daughters every chance she gets and vice versa, but there was no keeping those girls out of LA. Amazing.

Somebody a few posts back had mentioned that LA has its share of negatives, but that it has tons of positives. Fantastic point. In Colo. Spgs., there are negatives but I can't honestly come up with too many positives. It's cheap here, but you get what you pay for. The natural beauty is good, but it's NOTHING compared to what SoCal has.

And the people. I find LA people to be so genuine. I remember the Von's checkout girls. Talk about entertaining. I'd be standing in line and these Mexican girls would be just talking trash, laughing, planning parties, cutting the bagboys down, filing their nails, gossiping, shooting looks everywhere. They were hot stuff. It was so priceless. Here in Colo. Spgs, that don't happen. The only thing you get is some pathetic inbred looking miserable organism who won't make eye contact with you. WTF???

I also remember stopping in a gas station somewhere on Ventura. It was one of those tiny, packed in little Chevrons on the south side of the road. I went in to get cokes and this guy came in. He looked like a bigshot agent or producer or something. But as he came in I looked him in the eye and he looked at me like he was the hottest, meanest, most important guy in the world and I have to admit you will never ever see anybody like him in Colorado. Not even close. I was somehow enchanted by his charisma and the look of disgust on his face. I dunno. He had power. I saw Hollywood in his eyes. This sounds crazy, but he looked at me like he either wanted me to pitch him a new sitcom or get out of his way. Like he was a businessman and he was serious. It was cool.
