John & Ken (whom I am NOT a fan of) or Michael Savage (who I am also definitely NOT a fan of) aren't as controversial as Leykis? If anything they're a great deal more inflammatory.
I didn't say anything about controversiality. I just said that the other talk radio choices are largely political, and I can speak only for myself that I'm full up on political stuff and I don't want to hear more of it during my drive time.

That is already the case, and that's why the format change. Advertising revenue fell due to the slow economy, talk radio was comparatively an expensive format, and the format change to less expensive DJs pushing buttons to play tunes is a cost reduction. Fewer costs, same advertising = more profit. Of course that assumes advertising stays the same, but if audience falls the station won't be able to charge as much for advertising. I find it difficult to believe that as many people will listen to the new mindless music format compared to the Leykis audience.

Some people already jack their iPhone into their car audio.
So what do they talk about on KLSX? Brad-jolina or how much Britney Spears weighs this week?
No, I haven't heard any talk about that. Turn on your radio today before 5:00 p.m. and see for yourself. After 5:00 p.m. it won't matter...

Leykis, on the other hand, is all about male empowerment and that's what made him so "controvercial". It was hilarilous to listen to him challenge the customary views on god, marriage, children and women in general and then have people call in (mostly women) pissed off at him for basically stating facts. He himself would talk about how he used to have talkshows on other stations that were more political in nature but, since this style kept the ratings up, he stuck with that format. A lot of his critics said that he was a chauvinist or that he was bitter but he trully did provide a public service by encouraging young men to focus on their education and on establishing their careers before getting themselves into serious relationships. He also advocated safe sex and not getting women pregnant. Towards the end he went all out and just became anti-marriage but, if you trully listened, he made valid points to support his ideas. If you ask me, we need more people encouraging our youth to focus on educating themselves and on establishing a good career instead of getting each other pregnant and leeching off of the government. Especially young men. ...
Yeah, that was better than I could have put it! You got +rep from me for your good description.
It is strange that we are perceived as one of the entertainment capitals of the world - Hollywood, Disneyland, in fact the Oscars on Sunday night - yet the suits in the radio world determine that another pop radio station is really what we all need. Who says these people know everything? They should poll the regular people out on the street. Or maybe it's because we're aging into the demographic that has no voice. I live near a mall where they give out free movie tickets for audience previews. My boyfriend and I have left the demographic. We no longer count. Yet the demographic the movie people are looking for can't afford to live in the area.
Folks, when you move to Los Angeles, get ready for not a very diverse choice when it comes to your radio dial. You will be sadly disappointed that we don't have much to offer when we are supposed to be such a sophisticated audience with the entertainment industry as a draw and a major employer.
It's less the audience demographic than it is the headroom between the advertising revenue and the labor costs. CBS Radio found that the advertising revenue was falling (due to the slow economy) and the labor costs had already been cut to the bone. CBS Radio "suits" determined that it was just a matter of time until the advertising revenue would fall to below the operating costs necessary to keep the station running. They had to further cut the labor costs, and running another push-button music format station costs less than talk radio shows.
Let's not blame CBS Radio. They are just business operators responding to economic conditions. They had no other choice. The true cause of us losing our 97.1 Talk Radio is the slow economy. The "suits" on Wall Street and the "suits" in Washington D.C. are the ones who screwed up the economy, and the economy is what screwed up our radio.
Perhaps our Talk Radio will be back after the economy recovers, maybe by 2010-2012.
Some guy that is trying to save his job actually thinks that there are people out there that want to hear the hits - when there are several other stations and satilite playing hits.
This will be a big money loser just like when Country Radio left LA area for several months. Now 105.1 makes more money in advertisment then the new formated station that use to play county.
I think this is so people cant find decent entertainment on free radio - so you will buy Satilite radio.
its a scam like everything else outthere these days.
Sorry Frosty Hiedi and Frank - really enjoyed hearing your shtick in the afternooners.
I am so devastated! I can't believe we've lost the only FM station of any interest to me and so many others. This was a horrible decision by CBS. It will surely be regretted. I am positive that they are receiving much more negative responses than was anticipated. More noise instead of intelligent and entertaining conversation is the last thing we need. Was it really worth it? Especially with at least 90% of the 97.1 Free FM employees willing to take pay cuts? I hope this new format fails. I and my family will boycott it for certain. The demographic that CBS has affected should be insulted. Top 40 music is what MP3 players are for these days, not every FM radio station. Ridiculous !!!!!!!!!!
I'm not going to listen to the new station, but I'm not boycotting it. It simply does not appeal to me to listen to Top 40 music, particularly today's Top 40 music. If I do turn on the FM for music I'll go find an Oldies or '70s or '80s station and listen to that. But more likely I'll just listen to an MP3 CD or my iPod.
Remember that the negative responses are from the current Talk Radio audience. Of course they are negative about it. Most of them are not in the new target demographic. There's no way to say what the new demographic will think about the new station until the audience has found it. And let's not forget that the station is owned by CBS Radio and it's up to them to decide what is most profitable. But... it's up to us what we want to listen to!
Well I've been listening to the last shows all day. I'll probably continue until Tom's last goodbye at 5:00 p.m. and then I'll push a different button and that will be that.
Wow... that was a depressing last five minutes of Frosty Heidi and Frank.
I lived in California for about a year and once I moved away, I tried to listen to FHF and Leykis as much as possible online. I'm in Chicago and still got teared up when they signed off for the last time.
Not the biggest fan of Danny, but I will be here to listen to Leykis in 10 minutes.

I think they had a bit too much booze. And in fact they were discussing imbibing alcohol almost from the beginning of their show (10:00 a.m.) and IMO it's totally crazy to drink that early. Even now it's too early to drink (3:00 p.m.).
Evidently Frank Kramer (Frosty, Heidi and Frank) shot his mouth off a bit too much. Leykis led off his show focusing on Frank's on-air statement that all the talk show hosts except Leykis were willing to take a pay cut to help the station continue the talk radio format. Leykis challenged Kramer to prove that anybody was ever asked to take a pay cut, and stated that he (Leykis) had never had anybody discuss it with him. And then he offered Kramer a job picking grapes on his vineyard. I think Kramer boozed it up a bit too much and put his mouth in his foot.
I'm listening to Leykis right now, and I intend to stay tuned in until the show is over, and maybe a few minutes of the new format just for a laugh. And then I'm gonna turn off the radio and pour myself a glass of wine.
