Just have X amount of cash, no credit cards etc.....
When X amount of cash runs out and you can't pay the bills anymore go to plan B.

Try it but be prepared

I agree trying it might be the only way she will be convinced and who knows maybe it will work, but like you said, no credit card, almost no savings, what happens the first time she gets sick and can't go to work. The funny thing is, I am not a pessismist in anyway, I am usually the optimist, but sometimes I am a realist and that is what I am thinking right now.

I would hate to think of someone going through life with a dream they never persued and yet most of us do...

You are right, let's hope she realizes what she is up against. I just am not convinced, no matter what she says she is..What looks good on paper usually isn't all what it appears. How many of us can make out a monthly budget and make it work?? I know we allow $300 or more a month extra just for misc, if you are working 30 a week at $9.00 an hour you wouldn't even have $100 a month left for emergancies..

Oh well, again, lets' hope she either gives up her dream and becomes more realistic or she continues with it and is a success..

Nita

You're going to have to hit the gym with regularity, lose weight, tone up, get tanned (if you're white), and get your hair done at salons. You definitely don't need to be dolled up for auditions or anything, but you just need to look healthy and vibrant to the extent that casting directors will be able to picture you costumed and made-up on the big screen.
This one really depends. If you're going for leading lady, I agree. If you're going for character roles, most of the time not. Also, there are a lot of fair skin leading ladies. The tan look is kind of 80s now...

but the studios are still looking for a certain look and the OP said she wants to make it big, not as a character role, not now, maybe down the road, she refers to 10 years from now..

When I was in high school, most of my friends worked at the movie theater and they all lived with their parents. The only person I know nowadays that still works at a movie theater and is successful, works for Arclight Cinemas as a director.

I have to agree with Nita, Lumerian Feast and E Superhero.
You say you're a realist, but, to be blunt, you aren't. You have rose tented glasses on sweetheart. Open up those beautiful eyes of yours.
I am by no means an expert, but I'm also an aspiring actress who has dreams to move to Tinsel Town. I know that becoming something more than a background actor is going to be 1,000 times harder than I think it will be, and that's being optimistic! Making it in Hollywood is only half the battle, you have to get there and stay there first.
All we want to do is see you succeed, and we're trying to be real with you so that you have a bigger chance to do so.
I honestly wish you luck. If you don't plan more and work more first, you're going to need it.

Old threads are resurrected here all the time. I saw one yesterday where a poster was talking about the great job market in Orange County...I did a "WTF!?" until I checked the post date (August of 2006).

Just heard on talk radio this morning that only 3 major movies will be filmed in Los Angeles this year. They are desperately trying to change this but other states have cheaper taxes and costs to filming a movie. I would try to make it happen in Georgia and other states before I moved here. I think "Hollywood" won't be in Hollywood much longer.
