Default Best freeway reverse commute to Hollywood and Irvine?

Anyone? I live in Hollywood, but work in Irvine.

I'm thinking on leaving Hollywood (at latest) before 6:15 (generally a breeze leaving at this time - 35 min ?) for work in Irvine.
-Option 1: Take 101, 5, 55
-Option 2: Take 101, 110, 405

I'm thinking on leaving Irvine (at earliest) after 7 (despite below, generally ok after 7).
-Option 1: Take 405 (parts could be jammed), 110 (there is jams in and cars dangerously changing lanes and motorcycles recklessly lane splitting in DTLA), 101
-Option 2: Take 55 (jammed till junction into 5), 5 (jammed before LA county, and DTLA), 101
-Option 3: Take 405, 110, 10, get off La Brea to Highlands (haven't tried this method but looks most promising)

Other options?

Thanks,

Leo

wow, there isn't a winner in the bunch. you'll have to try them all out to see which is fastest, but they are all going to long and slow, guaranteed!

both suck pretty bad, but you could take the metrolink if you wanted. i guess union station would be closest in la(just guessing) and there is an irvine station. it would be the orange county line

Does the 55 ever clear up? I always avoid the 55 when possible.
I would stick to the 5 or 405.

irvine will become famous soon enoughirvine will become famous soon enough
In the morning take the 101 to the 5. It's much shorter than the 101 to the 110 to the 405. very simple.

In the evening check sigalert.com before you leave, and here are some options:

Don't take the 405 unless there is an accident, or bad backup on the 5. To leave Irvine just take Jamboree to the 5. No need to take the 55.
The 5 will back up a bit north of the 91, but the road construction should be finished soon in the next few months I think. It will slow again around Imperial Hwy all the way to downtown, but should move ok.

From downtown LA:

If the 101 in LA is too backed up as it is on Friday nights (or any night) there are a few options:

Take the 5 into the Valley to the 134 west and then the 101 south over the hill. (If you made it this far you deserve a treat. There is a Bobs Big Boy on Riverside in Toluca Lake/Burbank, and its open all night)

OR if the 134 is backed up cut through forest lawn and take Barham road across the 101 to Mulholland and enter Hollywood via Outpost Rd.

OR get off the 101 downtown, 4th street exit and take Beverly all the way to Hollywood. Other surface street options from downtown include 6th, Temple, or Cesar Chavez/Sunset. (maybe grab dinner/french dipped sandwich at the famous Philippe's on Alameda in Chinatown)

btw, your option 3 is one of the worst options. The 10 is bound to be backed up, as is the 110. And Highland often backs up badly south of Sunset. But the Highland to La Brea shortcut is decent from Hollywood if you want to head to LAX, Venice, or the South Bay, by way of Slauson and/or La Cienega.

Or, take the Metrolink from Irvine to LA Union Station and then the subway to Hollywood but I don't know if that's cheaper or faster than driving.

good luck.
