Fly Over the Proposed Hollywood Freeway Cap Park - Video Interlude - Curbed LA
(Video at the bottom of the page)

So the people behind the Hollywood Central Park have released a flyover video with renderings of the park embedded into Google Earth.

For those that don't know the park would go from the Hollywood Blvd overpass to the (I believe) SM Blvd. over pass. It would be a "cap" on top of the 101 freeway along the section that it is below grade.

I personally think that unless the cost is absolutely staggering, this should be built. For one thing, it adds green space to a district of the city that is severely lacking parks and it would more seamlessly connect East and Central Hollywood.

That is just on the face value; there are plenty of underlying reasons that also make it a logical choice to be built. It would also add jobs to the area for the duration of construction and it would increase the property value of homes along the park (those homes / businesses have lower than usual property value because of the noise and pollution of the freeway, over time the increase could be exponential - think about those homes on the UES in NY that are adjacent to Central park).

The overpasses (which are basically transient RV parking right now) would also be significantly improved.

Even if the cost is higher than most are comfortable with, I think this civic investment would end up paying for itself thousands of times over, I mentioned Central Park before, but think of the way it has enhanced the QOL in NY, the international reputation of the city, not to mention the increased property values (and tax revenue) the park has provided for NYC.
