Moving to Los Angeles AFB soon
I'm moving to Los Angeles AFB in a few months and would like some input on where to rent a house with a decent balance of price/size along with good schools K-12 and a short commute to LA AFB. We need a single family home no more than $2700/month with 3-4 bedrooms and a 2 car garage. Opinions on what city best suites our needs would be nice. Any ideas?

Top tier is Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, and El Segundo, but, may be too expensive for you.
Hawthorne, Lawndale, and Gardena are all average, acceptable towns. Their schools are better the farther west you go. They are more likely to be in your price range.
The next step down in price, safety, and school performance are Inglewood, Lynwood, South Gate, and Carson.

You should be able to find a house for rent in Torrance under that price, but I could be wrong

El Segundo would be the logical choice, but $2700 might not get you into a 3BR. I'll have a look around and DM you. You might check around Holly Glen too. Though technically in Hawthorne, it abuts El Segundo and is a nice middle class area. I believe that children in Holly Glen can attend the El Segundo USD. And you would be able to bike/walk to the LA AFB.

I don't think it will, but if you narrow it down to apartments/condos it's a--I'll say, "less slim"--possibility. You won't get the amenities of a standalone home, though. I'd consider going as far afield as Lakewood/Long Beach. Carson would be closer still. It's a 405 commute but really not that bad a one even with traffic, and there are a bunch of different avenues that'll get you into El Segundo too.

I'm getting stationed to LA AFB this April. I would say El Segundo would be your best bet, but you might have to spend just a tad over $2700. Have you checked out the base housing in San Pedro? It is supposedly pretty nice.

It is doable. Here are listings from last week's local paper. DM me if you want the contact information. This info is taken directly from the paper and I have no invested interest in them. There are other small details that I have not included from the ads.
