Worst:
- Walnut to Pomona (class #1), to Diamond Bar (job #1), to Pico Rivera (job #2), to Long Beach (class #2), to West Covina (job #3), and then home after a 14+ hour day juggling 3 jobs and school at the same time.
- 92 miles total.
- A tad over 2 hours total spent on the road; luckily, only one leg was with traffic.
- Once or twice a week for two months. I wanted to graduate, hence taking courses at two different campuses. I needed money, hence the three jobs (all part time, of course).

Best:
- Walnut to Diamond Bar, on the days when I only had the one job.
- 4 miles each way.
- 10 minutes at the most.
- 15 months; last day was the day after I graduated.

My current commute from W.Covina to Whittier is 14 miles, taking 40-45 minutes.

K-Dawg, those of us with the worst commutes probably aren't posting on this thread because we're always stuck in traffic! Most people's tolerance seems to run out at around two hours one way. Mine would run out after about an hour!

Seriously, domestic violence is a real concern in areas like Lancaster, because one spouse is usually commuting a long distance, has a long work day, and doesn't have a lot of time with his/her family. There are real costs with this kind of lifestyle.

I was going to start a new thread on this but I did my city-data forum due diligence and searched for an existing. Exception was, to provide the worst commute you are someone you personally know currently does on a regular basis.

OK, here are two I know of.

Last year, I was TDY to Goleta for about six months, coming home on weekends. There was one guy I worked with over there who commuted DAILY from Riverside. He worked a 4X10. Got up at 1:45AM, out the door at 2:30 at work at 4:30, left work in Goleta at 2:30, home around 5:30-6PM.

RIght now, I work in Irvine but my buddy commutes daily from Wood Ranch in the far west end of Simi Valley. Here at work at about 6:15, out the door at about 4PM heading back to Simi on a jammed I-5.

Any others? What are some really bad ones you know about?

Worst: South Pasadena/Pasadena to Calabasas (35-45 miles one way depending on route taken, 40 minutes to 90 minutes, did this for 5 years).

Best: South Pasadena to Pasadena (4 miles, 10-15 minutes, did this for 2 years).
Pleasanton to Fremont (15 miles, 20-25 minutes, did this for 2 years)

For a while, I commuted from Echo Park to Irvine -- that would be the worst one. 45 miles, usually ~1 hour thanks to my motorcycle.

Best one was within my apartment when I was working from home; second-best would have been from my Hollywood apartment to my Hollywood workplace -- 1.5 miles and 5 minutes.

Outside SoCal, my worst commute by far was from Bainbridge Island to Bothell, WA. Only 25 miles but it included a ferry crossing, so it usually took about 1.5 hours -- again, my motorcycle made it bearable; without it (i.e. in a car) it would have taken twice as long each way.

Best was working for home, and I also had a job that was a 2 block walk. Right now I have a 15 mile commute between Santa Monica and East hollywood, which is about 50 minutes to an hour each way. This probably is my worst commute.

Worst:
Pleasanton, CA to Richmond, CA
40 miles ~ 1:30 drive time leaving at 6:30 AM and at 4:30 PM

Honorable mention is Thousand Oaks, CA to West LA
40 miles ~ 1:15 drive time leaving at 6:30 and 3:30

Best:
Hollywood, CA to Hollywood, CA
15 feet ~ 20 second walk time, leave at 8:00 and arrive at 8:00
(Okay I work from home )

I knew a lot of guys that did that when I worked in El Segundo. I worked at a huge aerospace company and there were dozens of vans (like mine) that came from Camarillo and Palmdale and Lake Hughes and Moreno Valley and Lake Elsinore and San Clemente.
