To the OP, welcome to City-Data - and to L.A. You may not want to stay in Van Nuys very long, and good luck finding a job. (I mean that sincerely and ironically!) Difficult economy right now, to say the least.

This forum would have been a lot more helpful if you had asked these questions before moving here.

One tip: Eat at Beeps at the corner of Sherman Way and Woodley (or maybe it's Hayvenhurst). It's a pink drive-in kind of place. They have great breakfasts and sandwiches, etc.
It must be the roaches that give it a distinct flavor.
Don't forget to check out Dr. Hoggly Woggly's BBQ on Sepulveda Blvd.
I don't know that area but seeing as you're a performer and probably not qualified to do anything else, I'd say check out the classifieds in the L.A. Weekly for work and for a band mate.

Well good luck, I sure hope you brought a lot of money with you or you may be heading right back to S.C.

With this economy why would anyone try to re-locate? Oh well, it is your life and I hope it works for you...

Don't listen to the naysayers! You made the decision to move here, and the only reason you will fail here is if you allow it happen. Best of luck to you, and let all the people telling you that you won't make it motivate you to prove them wrong!

You could be very right. I don't think most of us want to see these kids fail, we are just realistic enough to know they have an uphill battle that few ever win..

Welcome to Los Angeles. Depending on where on Saticoy you are, you could be not that far from where I live. My area is not bad at all. Yours may depend on exactly where you are. Are you east or west of the San Diego Freeway? ("West" would be the correct answer, even better if that's "West of the Van Nuys Airport.")

You should state your qualifications and what kind of job you are looking for. Impossible to answer without that, or at least any meaningful answer.
