Can anyone comment on good, safe cities on the 14-North heading toward Palmdale and Edwards AFB, like the Humphreys and Mint Canyon in Santa Clarita, or Lang and Acton on the 14-N.

Just looking for a nice apartment rental.

Thansk!

Crime gets lower and housing gets cheaper as you get closer to Edwards. My husband works at Dryden there. Skip Lancaster and Palmdale if you're able to. Rosamond is smaller, older, but has a good sense of community, California City is also nice as well as affordable. I don't know enough about the other places to really speak for them though.

There are no apartments in Acton that I know of. Same is true for Agua Dulce. Both are considered "rural" areas and most of the housing is ranch-style or large estates. For apartments, you're looking at either Canyon Country or Palmdale.

Here's the truth:

California City is NOT nice!

You'd be better off in Lancaster or Palmdale on the West Side of either. West Lancaster and West Palmdale are very safe and home to many law enforcement officers who work in the L.A. Basin.

The problem with California City is that many of the criminal element left Lancaster and Palmdale when those cities started to crack down on Section 8, crime and gangs. They headed to California City, Boron and other smaller communities in eastern Kern County where there was less of a law enforcement presence. This has been well-documented recently. Yes, California City is cheap, but there is a reason it is...

Rosamond is alright and does have a "sense of community", but you'll probably be going into Lancaster and Palmdale for major shopping anyway.
The only shopping available in Rosamond is an Albertson's and a Rite Aide drug store. Many people in Rosamond make the 10-15 minute drive to Lancaster and Palmdale for cheaper groceries and access to more retail choices.
