Yes, they were called "Dixiecrats" for their hatred of President Lincoln. Nixon moved them all into the Republican party to boost GOP numbers.

It's called going back to the roots of your family. IN NYC, there are African Americans that are leaving due tot gentrification of some historically, predominately Black neighborhoods like Harlem. Many are going "down South" and some are coming to Upstate NY, New Jersey or Pennsylvania.

Also, as an example, my parents are from Mississippi and South Carolina and there are many people that move back to the South from my area. Heck, I have a brother in Virginia and a sister in North Carolina. So, there is a transition as to where Black people are living.

Exactly1 There have been books that put that on the Democratic party, but people need to realize that those Southern Democrats had more loyalty to the "Southern way of life" than to the party itself.

yes the southern way of life, one of the factors that led JFK to postpone civil rights until after the 1964 election (not to offend the southern bigwigs), LBJ made civil rights his priority and then lost much of the south in the 1964 election (keep in mind that JFK is considered a much more important hero in the modern democratic party). I think you need to learn your history before you type.

That's a money thing. Black people aren't leaving New York because they hate New York and love the South. They're leaving because the abundance of yuppies is making it just as astronomically expensive to live in other boroughs as it is in Manhattan.

True...I didn't say anything about Black people leaving NYC because they don't like NYC. NY State will always have a lot of Black people. It has more than any other state with about 3.5 million.

I know it is about money and getting priced out or making money on the sale of their house and leaving for other communities close by or down South.

Once again, folks -- the topic is whether there is still a large Black population in Los Angeles. Let's try to stay focused on that. Thanks!

I think the original question has been sufficiently answered already.

In typical City Data fashion, people are now moving onto tangential or completely irrelevant issues, like the difference between Dixiecrats and Republicans, the migration of black New Yorkers to the South and which Latino neighborhoods are cool, etc., etc., etc.

As a black Californian, I was driving around LA city tonight (Downtown, South LA, and West LA) and not once did I get pulled over.
