We don't know if the original poster is a mom or a dad, married or not married.

But, if she is a single mom, then it would be helpful to know what is dad's view of mom (assuming the original poster is a woman) taking the child to LA.

you are completely right, I re-read the posting and there is nowhere he/she has indicated anything other than the desire for a nice home, nice neighborhood and has money to spend...

Pool would be nice too!

People who are from L.A. and very familiar with the areas would be helpful.

Rent an Apartment for one year.

When you find the right school and area that you prefer to live in with respects to your work, her commute to school, and your lifestyle preferences, you will then be able to make an informed choice.

Check: themls listings to preview homes for sale. They aren't going anywhere too quickly.

La Canada, La Crescenta and Glendale are close to Downtown LA with good schools.

Actually, I own a clothing line so I don't need to commute to an office (I work from home). My boyfriend (who also happens to be my daughter's father/not a single parent=LOL)commutes between NJ and ATL in his work, so he will not be working in L.A. My main concerns as a parent are the safety of the neighborhood & a good school district. Although I would prefer to be at least 20-30 minutes from downtown L.A.; it is not an absolute requirement.
Thanks for all of the suggestion, will check out Malibu. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Malibu isn't 30 minutes from downtown LA unless you own a helicopter...

Now that would be cool 200 feet above the PCH in a UH 1H. (The limo version)

I've read a couple of threads you've started.

I recommend you rent because $100K really isn't a big downpayment here. Most houses that sell for over $1 million here are paid off and don't have mortgages.
