For whatever reason? Maybe personal significance, you think it has most significance to the city etc...Not the greatest, most visited.etc.

Dodger Stadium
Sepulveda Dam (near the 101/405)
Griffith Park Observatory
LAX for some reason
Hollywood Bowl
City Hall (I always hear Jack Webb's "This is the city..." when I see it.)

I've never understood the excitement over the Hollywood sign.

For me, there are no landmarks in L.A. that have any significance. My personal experiences and relationships are what have meant the most to me.

LAX for me in the other option.

A place where people and a great deal of people are on the go.Just like LA County as a whole if you think about it.

Memories of my time growing up in LA are the most significant to me personally compared to any physical landmark. However a few things I have always admired and find inspiring include:

-Downtown skyline (mostly Library Tower and City Hall)
-The view of Santa Monica Bay looking north up the coast toward Point Dume in Malibu (beautiful!)
-Mormon Temple (although I am not LDS I admire the building and think it's an LA staple.)
-View of LA basin from the Hollywood Hills, especially at dusk when the sun is setting (simply divine)
-The San Gabriel Mountain range which frames LA so beautifully, especially during the winter months when its nice and clear out. The snow cap is always stunning.
-The Santa Monica Mountains where I go when I want to be alone with nature in peace and solitude.

Those are important/significant landmarks to varying degrees. But I'll have to propose the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, City Hall, Angel's Flight, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Hollywood Bowl, and (crazy as it sounds) the Four Level Interchange.

Nicely stated & I totally agree I am fond of the Observatory & of-course the Getty Center for fantastic views of the basin & ocean. The Rose Bowl and Coliseum also are good landmarks.

The Academy Theater in Inglewood. My Momma worked here as an usherette during WW2, and this is one of the theaters both of my long dead parents went to during their childhood in the thirties. Every time I see that spire I think of them.

The Philippe sign. I love that classic old sign, the old building, and love that restaurant.

Well, of your two questions, I think I'll just answer the first one in red.

The "LA Landmarks" that have the most personal importance to ME are the ones that hold a special place in my heart because they bring back memories of my childhood. Also, these are places that if they were gone, would be sorely missed.

Griffith Park/Observatory - Always thought it as a magical place ever since kindergarden when we would take field trips there.

Dodger Stadium - again, brings back memories of my childhood going to Dodger games.

Museum of Science and Industry, LACMA, Getty Villa, Getty Museum - Same as above locations.

Downtown skyline - Whenever I see it when flying back into LAX or driving on the freeways, I always feel "At Home".
