That's a little difficult to answer unless we know what sort of business you're in.

I don't talk about a specific business but perhaps the business is different between the both cities( or the both county)

If you are interested in starting a business, don't concern yourself with message boards and news groups. Find something that you can do well. Even better, find something that you can do better than anyone else. If you love what you do chances are it will not matter where in the state you choose to operate the business. Both the San Francisco area and the Los Angeles area have plenty of people and plenty of resources to get your business off the ground. I like to use the Carl Karcher example. He opened his Carl's Jr chain in So Cal and concentrated on the California Market. After many years Carl's Jr. bought out Hardees a chain that was in many states. Now you will also find Carl's in many states, but not in the beggining. If you can make it in California chances are your business can survive without any other markets. Eventually it could incompass other parts of the nation.

Unless your business is a type of message board or a news group. In that case, you'd be prudent to concern yourself with the aforementioned.

I will agree, if you are in that business then go for it. If you are doing something else, then just go for it. I think that it is funny for those of us that may or may not have the experience in opening a business to answer a question to someone that is considering doing so. Then again maybe the exsercise is just accedemic and the OP is just wondering which of the two locations would be better to start a business in. Chances are that is all we are getting from this. LOL. Anyway it would be interesting either way, it is for me or I would not be here mindlessly moving about CDF.

If you are a screenwriter then the city of LA is good. Any other business then you want to be in Burbank or some of the other surrounding cities that dont tax the hell out of you even if you aren't profitable.
