When I was in college about a million years ago, Pomona seemed to be a sweet little college town. Now its feature on "LiVE PD" and looks like a horror show. I, too, would like to hear what it's like to live there.

When we left the SGV and this was almost 40 years ago it was already starting its decline. Before that is was as you say, a nice mid sized college town and a very desirable place to live. It is amazing how places change from decade to decade or generation to generation.

It’s called over population. While the USA population doubled, the Southern California population quadrupled.

Yes that might be part of it but I compare Pomona to Monrovia: Not size wise I will add. There was a time when Pomona was very desirable and Monrovia was someplace we drove through and didn't want to waste time there. Now it seems the opposite is true.

Pomona missed the boat and let itself get run down. It could have easily continued to be a great city with lots of historical character and desirable neighborhoods if it had tried to preserve it's history and culture. Instead of preserving what made Pomona a great town, it tore down much of it's downtown area, Victorian mansions and replaced them with strip malls and low cost housing. Not even having Cal Poly or being the home of the L.A. County fair could save it. Recent revitalization came too little and too late but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Downtown Pomona has strip malls? It sure doesn't look like it in this link: Downtown Pomona

I haven't been there lately, but historic downtown Pomona has gentrified. And the area near Cal Poly is completely different than downtown Pomona.

Pomona has been a great addition to Live PD. For such a small city they sure seem to have quite a bit of crime. Anytime they cut to Pomona you know it's going to be good. About 3 weeks ago they busted an illegal marijuana shop and illegal dispensary on the same night. Then over the weekend they bust another illegal casino only this time there's like 30 people inside. It's never the boring crap like you see in Bradford County, Florida or Richland County, SC when they only bust for weed or someone stealing $100.

Now I've been through Pomona and know it has it's nice sides but damn there's quite a bit of action. The colleges in and around Pomona and the fact that its downtown area has good bones will save it in the future as people look for cheaper options out of LA. A lot of good deals in Pomona right now.
