Hey guys.

I recently got accepted into UCLA. My sister has a job in north Hollywood, on Lankershim. To save on money, we were hoping to get an apartment in Westwood, probably near Santa Monica Boulevard. I was wondering if anyone commuted from Westwood to North Hollywood to know how long it takes on that route. What's the best route? Use the 405 and 101 or only South Beverley Glen drive and just go down that road? She works from 9 to 6 so hopefully that works in her favor, but yeah, i just wanted to know, if anyone knows how long that commute would be.

Well, with the economic downtown traffic has eased up a bit. I'd try the 101 to the 405 first, before weaving on surface streets. She's lucky to be heading against traffic.

It's not gonna be pretty. The 101 from 405 to Lankershim is going to be a mess, but its not that far. I'm guessing she is looking at a 35 minute commute to work each day....maybe more if you live further from the freeway.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel like the traffic driving along the 101 or the 405 have died down at all during this slumping economy. If anything, it feels like it's gotten worse. Granted I don't drive those freeways daily, but when I do, I'm always stuck in miserable traffic. Moreover, I tend to drive on these freeways when it's not rush hour traffic.

I'll give you a recent example, I was driving from Lankershim Blvd to the 101 to the 405 to drop off a friend at LAX. I was driving Friday at 2:30pm. You'd think this wasn't rush hour, but the 405 carpool lane was a parking lot along with all the other lanes. I know that the construction on the 405 is a factor, but this was ridiculous. We thought there was an accident, so we toughed it out and about an hour later it started speeding up again....guess what? No accident. Just traffic. The 101 was no better. Especially the part where the 101 connects to the 405. That is the worst.
