Wink whittier 90606

I am considering buying a home in Whittier CA, zip code 90606. Does anyone have any information about this area? Is it a safe community? Thank you for your info.

Whittier is kind of a mixed bag. The northern part is really pretty nice; whereas the southern portion seems a little ratty. Overall it's safe though. I do not know where your proposed purchase is located, so I would ask the following questions: Have you checked the crime stats for that zip? Talked with the local police? How do you feel when you are on the block where your house is located? Have you gone by there on a Saturday or Sunday evening?

If you are comfortable with the answers to all 4 of those questions, then you've got a good feel for the place and can proceed in comfort.

whittier is a sleepy lil place. it has a few bad spots, but bad in relation to most middle class cities. not bad like east los or south central bad.

its a middle class city, with some really nice homes. before buying check out the neighborhood. there are a lot of modernist homes in whittier, but also a lot of tract homes in the souther part.

lots of pools in whittier as well.

the best thing you can do is look at sale comps. look at crime stats. and check mapquest.com. input the zip code into mapquest and zoom in on the aerial view where the star is at.. that will give you an ideo of the area.

90606 isn't the best part of Whittier. It borders on Pico Rivera, so it's kind of a dicey, lower-class area. I would avoid, the schools there probably won't be great either.

Best part of Whittier is 90601. That's the historic Uptown area, but things are going to be a bit pricier. I live in 90604, which is unincorporated Whittier. It's a good deal cheaper and fairly safe. Just really ugly landscape-wise and nothing to do.

That is not the nice part of Whittier, if you're looking around the area, you should consider city of Downey.

A lot of south east los, including whittier, is heavily populated with hispanic gangs...again patches of areas arent the best.

Is anyone besides me just flabbergasted that people want to buy a house in a neighborhood they know nothing about and instead of going to take a look, they post on an internet board?

Kind of sort of yes, but maybe the house APPEARS nice on the surface and she wants to get opinions from people who are more intimately familiar with the area...? Maybe?

I don't know, I personally like to check out the whole area (surrounding streets, crime maps, etc) before I get my sights set on a particular house or apartment.
