Hello everybody. I am thinking about buying a home. The yard is about 13,000 square feet, mostly grass and tress. How much do you think is reasonable for a gardener. How much would it be for a gardener to come weekly.

Thanks,

john

Ask your neighbors who they use and how much they pay. It is your and the gardner's best interests to get the same guy. He can be more efficient (and hopefully pass the savings to you) if he just needs to walk next door to your house.

I was paying $65/month for a modest yard in Northridge. The same gardener did about 5 houses in my vicinity. I felt I was overpaying but considering I was planning to move shortly (and ultimately did) I continued paying more than I thought reasonable. Maybe I would have been happier with about $60/month for what I got, or maybe better gardening at the rate I was paying, but I decided the hassle wouldn't have been worth the effort for 12 months or less. Now I have no house and no yard.

If it's just "mow and blow", $60.00 per month is pretty reasonable.

I pay $60 for my *grass cutter*. I can't imagine how much a real gardener would cost. My last "gardener" was $50. It's difficult to get them to routinely "garden" the yard. for $50-60, you'll get a grass-cutter who might edge the hedges, but won't do too much weeding or pruning or fertilizing unless you ask them every time. Pathetic. My old gardener from the early 90s used to hose down the patio, weed, etc.

Yes, grass cutters and sprinkler head killers. I can't find a decent yard person anywhere. I've paid as much as $120 for complete service (lol), but am now paying $45 month. No difference in service no matter what they promise.

Are they above or below Sunset?

And they have a gardener(s) who also does the pool? I don't know anyone who has that set-up. Pool guy. Gardeners. Never the twain shall meet. Plus maybe congratulations are in order because I've never known a 16-year old who knows how much their parents pay for gardening services. Especially in B.H.
