To the OP, I have never been to Chicago outside of a layover at O'Hare. I hear great things about it though. However, LA is by far one of the most dynamic and exciting places on the planet. People from all over the U.S. and the world are in LA, which makes for a very diverse and interesting mix. There is everything to do under sun. One can never be bored or be lacking something to do. The weather is great so you can enjoy nearly every kind of outdoor activity year round. Also, LA's cityscape and layout is quite unique and unlike anything you will see in any other American city--the mountains, the sea, the hills and canyons, the buildings and myriad architectural styles, and countless neighborhoods offer much to explore--so much so that you could live your entire life and never see all of LA and its hidden treasures and secrets. Also despite the ills of urbanity, LA remains one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its natural topography combined with man-made ingenuity provides for unmatched and spectacular scenery.
Since you are young, this might be the best time for you to come to LA or live someplace else in general to see another side of life and to experience something different and new. I did that and lived on the East Coast for six years, and I am glad I did. It was a very important life experience that I would not trade. You can always go back to Chicago. It isn’t going anywhere.
