We purchased a plot years ago through a major mortuary in L.A. The cemetary is part of the memorial park. One can make payments for this over time. You actually pick out the plot yourself (kind of morbid, but we did not want our kids to go through what we did when one of our parents died unexpectedly without stating provisions). At any rate, yes, you are purchasing a future need with today's dollars, so that's a benefit. The drawback is that if you later change your mind, you technically "own" this property and it is up to you to deal with it....the company will not purchase it back from you. BTW, what we purchased did not include service, casket, burial itself, etc.
