Default Car vandalization, theft, etc.

It seems like a lot of people talk about having their cars vandalized in L.A. Statistics only tell part of the story since a lot of people probably don't report the crime.

Have you ever had your car vandalized, stolen, or broken into in L.A., either as a resident or a visitor?

Someone keyed every car on my street when I first moved to North Hollywood.

Yup, had two trucks stolen, broken into and keyed. Had a neighbor key us last year, same neighbor left lit cigerettes on our trucks. He also smeared dog crap on a different neighbors wife's car.

Parked at Sears, went in for about 30 minutes, the back of my Thunderbird was keyed horizontally from one side to the other; looked at other cars; every car in the row, some 20 cars were the same way. When I was a kid and saw a nice car, I wanted one and I was going to work hard and buy it. Now, kids see a nice car and think only of destroy, destroy.

Big thing "back in the day" was to remove the Brand logo from the grill of the car. The real jerks, cut the cable tie on the Mercedes hoods and took the ornament. Wow, I know exactly what I'm typing about but it sure doesn't seem to make sense.

Here in Valley Village, after my house was burglarized, my neighbor's Lexus was broken into and merchandise was taken. This was in late 2008. Try not to park your car on the street at night or even in your driveway. Garages are best.

I forgot to mention, a few years prior in Valley Village, my rims got taken from my car. My scratched up Toyota Camry rims. Go figure.

Plus, when I used to live in Toluca Lake about 2 years ago, my neighbor's really fancy chrome spinner wheels off his Chrysler 300 (inside of a gated apartment parking area) were stolen and his car ended up on blocks.

Especially if weed or a bong gets stolen from the car....

In my case: I've had cars broken into about 15 times over the years in L.A., and once I had my car broken into and the stereo taken out in a gated community in Hidden Hills. Otherwise: 3 times in downtown L.A., 5 times in West L.A., twice in Brentwood, twice in Palms, once in Hollywood, once in Northridge.

Four cases of vandalism, one in Hollywood, one in Santa Monica, one in Pacific Palisades, and one in Van Nuys. Although SMPD told me that what happened was an attempted break-in -the perp was probably spotted by passers by before being able to steal anything, stopped what he was doing and ran away.

Note that the neighborhoods listed above span L.A.'s economic spectrum, further illustrating the problem is everywhere in L.A.
