Weekly Motels near UCLA area? (Los Angeles, Santa Monica: hotel, neighborhood, college)

I may be moving to the Santa Monica College, UCLA area this summer, and would be looking to start in a weekly motel, as roommate situations are scary, less desirable, and usually involve bigger deposits...any ideas?

I'm looking in a pretty much 5 mile radius near there, but can't seem to find anything that's listed...looking for some insider local information. The neighborhood doesn't have to be perfect, but not totally a nightmare either.

Somewhere in the middle is always a nice place to start!
