Valencia is part of the City of Santa Clarita, along with Saugus, Canyon Country and Newhall. The four of these unincorporated "towns" merged some years ago and formed the City of Santa Clarita. Stevenson Ranch Castaic and some other unincorporated "towns" in the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) are controlled by the County of Los Angeles. (not the same as the City of Los Angeles) The town is named for the Santa Clara River (mostly dry except after rains) that runs through the valley, however that name was used by a city in the San Fran Bay area and so it was changed to Santa Clarita for the city and valley names. The weather is about the same for all of the SCV. It is cool in the winter with snow falling about once every 20 - 40 years. Frost happens most winters. Summer can be very hot during the day, but being in the desert means that temp's drop at night by 20 - 40 deg's. There are a few flies, but no other bugs and you can leave your screens open and walk in-n-out of your backyard as if it was part of your house for parties. Critters (crawling kind and 4 legged kind) do wander the hills and so it is best to not let them in.

I ended up moving to Charlotte, NC in June with a job transfer. I love it, however I wish I was closer to the water. I go up to the mountains a couple times a month. It is already starting to get cold here though. The weather this summer was amazing. I still think about how the west coast would have been, but am satisfied.
