Default Streams or Rivers for FLYFISHING near LA?

I know there are mountains all around LA and I would imagine lots of camping and hopefully fishing. I'm looking for a good area to camp that is shady with a stream or creek or river.

I have a pop up camper and I love fly fishing for trout.

I also love 3-4 day backpacking trips.

Are the mountains there anything like the Rockies in Colorado?

Thanks in advance.

The best closest areas I'm aware of are the Western Sierras (east of Fresno and Bakersfield) or the Eastern Sierras up Hwy. 395 from about Independence or Bishop up to the Bridgeport area. I've done most of my trout fishing in the Eastern Sierras near the section of Hwy. 395 from Crowley Lake to June Lake. It's a nice drive up Hwy. 395 and takes about 5-6 hours to reach Crowley lake. I haven't been there in recent years but I understand that it's two lanes each direction all the way. There's plenty of camping in the National Forest near many of the streams and lakes. Most of the day hike trails lead to farther out areas that are great for backpacking. Don't miss Mammoth Lakes and do take the tram to the top of Mammoth Mountain for a view that is absolutely amazing.

For just a quickie....East Fork San Gabriel River.

Depending on where you are in LA its a 5 minute to 1 hour drive. I wouldn't camp though.

For a bit more remote, there is a creek and wilderness area above Lake Castaic. Its a pain to get to, and again I wouldn't camp. Its a bit of a walk to the stream.

There are a few streams also as you go up the coast towards and past Ventura.

Sequoia and the high sierras start at about a 3-4 hour drive north of Los Angeles area(past Bakersfield. As the previous poster stated, the high sierras are world class trout fishing. Its a huge mountain range and has so many fishing areas that you are just sort of going to need to do your own research and determine what you like. Yes the mountains can be like the Colorodo Rockies.
