Ok San Antonio yes it's boring there you should've probably did Dallas or Houston..even Austin is better than San Antonio...but I know I want to visit to see if I will like..don't think I can afford $2000 a month for an apt and still be able to live my lavish lifestyle on the side.

Why did we move to Texas? That's simple - we were absolutely CRAZY out of our minds!!! Seriously, we just wanted a new adventure. I wanted not just a "nice" home but a FABULOUS, SPECTACULAR home! We got that in Texas. Our CA home was very nice, over 4000 square feet on a 1/2 acre with a pool, spa, built in BBQ, front courtyard with fireplace - in addition to the front yard, which was before you even entered the private courtyard, TWO guest casitas - a mini-estate, if you will, but I wanted something even more spectacular! We had a 6200 square foot home built here in Texas for less than half of what we sold our desert home for. I am a competitive ballroom dancer and have always wanted my own ballroom to practice in and have dance parties in. I have that here in Texas.
Why do I want to leave? There are a myriad of reasons!!!
(1) The weather here SUCKS!!! There are very few sunny days and it's always extremely humid. Plus, it's COLD here in the winter. I was iced in for 3 days! School was canceled and I couldn't even get out of my driveway because it slopes down toward the house. I tried to get up the driveway and slid back down toward the house and almost hit my house!!! Talk about an "Oh S-hit" moment!!!
(2) The traffic here sucks even worse than the weather - and it is worse than driving in Los Angeles!
(3) The road/freeway system here sucks! The freeways are all 2-lanes, big rigs are allowed to drive in the "fast" lane, and everybody drives slow and paces each other. There are no on and off-ramps like CA. What they have here are frontage roads with access onto the freeways and you just hope to hell people yield to you as you are turning in front of them to get onto the freeway. Same situation for getting off the freeways - you have to exit onto a frontage road and hope the people on the frontage roads yield to you.
(4) EVERYBODY with a Texas license plate tailgates you! I have never been tailgated so much in my life - and I'm a native Californian!!! Texas has THE rudest drivers in the world!
(5) You WILL get a ticket if you drive even 5 miles over the speed limit (I got TWO tickets for 5 miles over!!! ) and if you have a CA license plate - forget it - you are toast - they'll pick you out in a heartbeat!!!
(6) It is just too damn crowded here. Yes, the shopping is awesome, but what good is it if you can't get to it? It's such a chore to go out of the house because you WILL be stuck in traffic and you WILL have to park out in the back 40 to go to the grocery store, mall, movie theater, restaurants, etc. It's a miracle if you ever get a close space. Then, once you get inside of the place you are going to, it's elbow to elbow crowds!
(7) Since my son got here and enrolled in school (7th grade) his grades have dropped to D's and F's. In CA he was a happy, well-adjusted kid and a straight A student. He is just so unhappy here and hates me for making us move here.
(8) You just can't make any money here! I was going to go to work here in Texas but for the field that I work in with 20+ years of experience - they want to pay me what in CA is an entry level wage and a wage that I have not made since I was like 17 years old!!!
(9) We all miss our friends. We took them for granted. We didn't realize that our friends, many of whom we have known most of our lives, we're so important to us. Sure we have a beautiful home, but without friends, this big house means nothing! We also took our beautiful, sunny CA weather for granted.
(10) Hubby is bored out of his mind because it rains so much here. He is an avid golfer and there are very few days that he can actually go out and golf, which means he is joined at the hip with me and driving me insane!!!
(11) There are no Saturday social dances here! What the hell??? In CA we went to Saturday night dances all the time. You have all day to lay around, then you get all gussied up and go out to dinner with friends and head off to the dance to dance the night away! Then you sleep in on Sunday morning because it's not a work day! The only dancing I do here in Texas is training for competitions and dancing in competitions. Nothing just for socializing and fun. Don't get me wrong, training and comps are my thing, but some socializing with friends and maybe making some blunders on the dance floor would be fun every once in a while.
So ... if anyone wants my gorgeous 6200 square foot house in San Antonio, it's for sale!!!

I have been considering moving to San Antonio but have many of the same misgivings that Twinkle Toes mentioned as reasons for leaving SA. I lived in SA at one time so it's not as if I'm going in totally blind or unprepared.
No matter how much research you do, visits can not compare to actually LIVING in a new state.
I think it's a gamble no matter where you move to. It's unfamiliar, it's new. It could be exciting. You're either going to like or you're not. If you don't? Well, I think it's great that TT has the means to move back to a place she & her family love.
Bottom line? Live where you're happiest if you can.
Twinkle Toes...welcome back!

Sampaguita,
I agree. Wherever you move, it's a crap shoot. And sometimes it can take years to adjust to a new home. I've spent the last several months researching a new place to move to, and finally, I figure, wow, I might as well throw a dart out there and follow it.

Twinkle Toes what planet are you from? Just to clear up any confusion on San Antonio, TX.
1) Fiction: "the weather here sucks....few sunny day" Fact: San Antonio and most of Texas has been in a drought for the last year and a half.
2) Fiction: "the freeways are all two lanes" Fact: The only two lane freeways are 1604 and 151. I-35, I-37, 281, I-10 & 410 are all 4 plus lanes.
3) Fiction: "it's too damn crowded here" Fact: San Antonio population 1.14 million, LA 3.69 million
4) "hubby is bored out of his mind" - Geez go to Sea World, Six Flags, the Riverwalk, Natural Bridge Caverns, Canyon Lake, Mission Trails, Market Square, SA Zoo, McNay Art Museum etc...Austin is only 50 minutes away, the beach is only 2 hours away, and Houston in only 2 1/2 hours away.
It seems to me that TwinkleToes only drove on the San Antonio highways between 4:30 and 6:00 PM and only went to the movies at 7:30PM on a holiday weekend.
I'm sorry to come off as rude but I have lived in San Antonio all my life and I am offended by the fictional senarios posted here. When you say "the shopping is awesome" I wonder if you truly are from California where there are world famous places to shop. San Antonio does have some shopping but nothing out of the ordinary.
Last but not least I guess I will have one less California driver to "tailgate" which is BS!

I'll give my answer. I moved from CA to TX too (San Antonio), and can't wait to get back out. It is sooooo hick and unsophisticated it's ridiculous. You have to handle the natives carefully though, because they are sensitive creatures. They really hate it too when you point out how backwards they are. From what I've experienced, the exaggerated Texas pride is really nothing more than a compensation for their inferiority complex--feelings of inferiority that are well-deserved in my opinion. Don't move to TX unless you want the culture shock of your life. The housing prices look attractive, but once you are there, it's like you are in some vat of molasses parallel universe. However, if you can't add 2 and 2 to get 4, and are proud of it, you will fit right in.

sakssa,
You're taking things way to personally. Twinkle Toes just likes living out in Palm Desert. She is who she is. Also, her husband likes golf. He doesn't want to drive two hours to Six Flags to go on a roller-coaster ride. Everybody is different. Nothing to get bent out of shape about.
