I'm going to cheat and include Orange County bands, too. Among those that weren't named:
Buffalo Springfield
The Pop
20/20
Crosby Stills and Nash (formed in L.A., iirc)
Jackson Browne
WASP
Megadeth
Stryper
Quiet Riot
Agent Orange
Steve Martin (not a group! *lol)
Autograph (they were actually better when they were called Wolfgang)
Leatherwolf
Poison (started in PA, but got popular in L.A.)
Steeler
Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force (yeah, I know what he did in Sweden, but Yngwie lived in L.A. and formed the band again while doing so and did their debut gig at the Country Club)
Racer X/Paul Gilbert
Steve Vai
Alkatrazz
Hellion
Malice
Warrior
Armored Saint
The Runaways
Lita Ford
Joan Jett

From two totally different aspects:
Slayer (originally OC)
Beach Boys (original house location has a marker on 119th, next to the 105 freeway...they went to Hawthorne High, which is the subject of one of their first recordings in 1963: "Be True to Your School")

I believe you are wrong about slayer...a lot of people think they are from huntington beach but are mistakened because they are from huntington park.

Remember RATT
I did not know that LinkinPark was from OC, I thought they where out of Chi Town.
I just took a trip down memory lane, 70's 80' & 90's style..That was fun!

Huntington Park and the rest of Southeast L.A. County are off the radar of many L.A. people (obviously not L.B. people)
Remember when Tom Bradley was scheduled to give a speech in Hawaiian Gardens and his staff were looking up airport information and what flights went there from LAX?
