Default Commute time from Downtown to Pasadena

What is the evening drive like through Downtown LA to Pasadena on the 110? I won't be doing it regularly, but is it like 5 mph, 20 mph, 45 mph?

What time does it get really bad? When does it get better?

I live in Pasadena and commute to and from El Segundo. Traffic on the 110 North is always bad going through downtown. It's the junction of 4 freeways: 110, 101, I-10 and I-5. The 110 is one of the oldest freeway in the nation. The lanes are narrow. Traffic is backed up because the entrance to I-5 North requires cars to negotiate a tight turn. Cars get backed up from that point and trickles back towards downtown. Daily rush hour starts around 4:00. I usually get off the 110 at Adams and use Figueroa to go through downtown. On normal days, this will take me 10-15 minutes to get through downtown, rejoining the 110 at the Chinatown exit. From there it's about 8-10 minutes to Pasadena. Going through downtown using Figueroa will save you 15-20 minutes.

Get the real data with the Traffic button at maps.google.com at various times of the day.
If the 110 gets too bad, just after the 4 tunnels, you can take the left offramp Ave. 26 to Figueroa north to York, right through South Pasadena and Fair Oaks to major parts of Pasadena. Check maps.google for details.
