Los Angeles doesn't even make the top 20 (fortunately). NYC is No. 8 on this survey (housing costs).

Los Angeles on international level would probably make the top 15-20 at least but thats it. Not number 1 though. I think LA proper is not really worth it. I can understand why someone would think that its overpriced because really it is.. From Single person perspective
its ok living it up the weathers good (usually), theres at lot stuff to see like bars ,restaurants and museums ..
but from Family Perspective its not a great place to raise kids its not unless you live a upscale area.. and even those schools aren't that great either i.e. Santa Monica and Beverly Hills and Venice. (i know this because i went to Santa Monica High school for a short time ) , , the schools are horrible in LA and theres a lot of crime and traffic..

Rents and housing have gone up everywhere(so much for years of recovery from the housing crash) another problem is wages in LA sometimes are not as competitive with other cities like Seattle or NY, but that depends on skills and industry.

Once again it depends on your lifestyles in L.A,Car payments, Car insurance & Weekly Gas prices can be a pretty penny ,I believe Houses in Beverly Hills have the reputation as the most expensive in the nation, The weather & beaches also play into prices out here.

In terms of L.A , I heard that Santa Monica homes are now more expensive than L.A . My family grew up in L.A and she said back in the days Santa Monica was kind of looked down upon in a way, as more lower class in a way.

Gas prices are frustratingly high for sure... I don't think many people realize that we are right now at least $1 a gallon more than many other States ...

It's not a big deal if you are making a lot of money. But for someone not making much it's a lot more.
Let's say you have a 13 gallon tank. That's $13 more per fillup.

If we didn't have that stupid Democrat party Cap & Trade gas would be 15 cents a gallon less. Man I hate Democrats.

It should be more than 15 cents a gallon less!..

It's insane how prices went up so high...but on the other hand I invested in an oil fund so I should wish that oil goes up to $5 a gallon tomorrow.

Even though my stock has gone down a lot , it seems the prices here in L.A for gas keep on going up and up.

I'm still ahead though on my modest investment.

It overpriced because it's in demand. Basic economics : Supply and Demand.

The less the supply and more demand the more prices will be up.

And the LA Socialist City Council just voted to increase minimum wage by 67%. Only the strongest businesses will survive.

Yeah and although people will say, it's not going to be $15 for years. I think businesses have already started raising prices. It definitely won't get any better, and I worry that it will be mostly only the rich that will be able to eat or even grab take out in the near future.

I predict it will be a huge gain for neighboring cities that don't go with a big wage hike. Perhaps Burbank, Glendale, etc also Orange County, Ventura County, etc.

Places will realize cost of doing business will be too high and not make economic sense for them, so they will see out other areas.
