Default Young family - moving to LA

We are moving to LA with our young toddler, in AUG.

Both my husband and I would like to live in the suburbs, but not too far from Santa Monica, where my husband will be working. Luckily his hours are a little flexible, so he can avoid peak hour traffic. One key factor is schools, we're not sure where the best places for schools are and as I'm not from the American school system, we are finding this a little tough.

We'd really appreciate some advice on which areas a safe and ideal for young families. (We're looking at paying 2K - 2.5K for rent.) I personally like Brentwood, but it seems very expensive...any thoughts?

You may want to try the South Bay area(Torrance and the like). May have places to rent in that range. Torrance has good schools. Check out greatschools.net for ratings(mostly based of standardized tests, so it's not a perfect measurement)

The only great school in Brentwood is UCLA and I don't think your children are old enough yet to take advantage of that. I agree with the previous poster, try the South Bay area, for your rental budget, the schools are better.
