I don't understand. Just 2 weeks ago I was searching for apartments in the area and they have gone up AGAIN. LA's apartment has been low in the past 6 to 12 months. Even the Luxury apartments were in a middle-income budget. No where is affordable anymore. I'm having a WTF momemt seriously.

I know were in a recession, but isn't that why the prices were so low? Now they're all interplanetary galaxy prices! Even ghetto Van Nuys has hit the jack pot or something. Long Beach is now UNAFFORDABLE. The good close-to-the-beach parts anyway. Can you believe that? Woodland Hills is more affordable! How in the sacre bleu(excuse my french) did Woodland Hills EVER become more affordable than Long Beach?? Ok either minimum wage has gone up or they are REALLY cracking down on the illegals and taxes. This is so insane. Less than 2 weeks. From $1,110 to $1,789. Insanity!

I've experienced the same thing in Pasadena. Things were low until three weeks ago. I think places jacked up their prices for summer. I've noticed over the past weekend, prices were moving lower again. I don't get it. It's incredibly frustrating trying to navigate erratic pricing.

Also, would it hurt to clean the apartments, steam clean the carpets and paint?

Is this one particular aparment complex or have you done research in general? It seems insane to raise price by 40% in a few weeks. Not sure who'd actually pay for that.

More former homeowners are scrambling to find rental housing... some by choice.

There has been a shakeout in the economy and those that still have jobs have a little more confidence and are moving forward with their plans...

I thought most of LA was covered under rent control?

I've done research in general!! Every apartment listing that I had searched a few weeks ago is now higher than it was! I searched all kinds of apartments in Pasadena and Glendale and Burbank and Long Beach. They were really low prices except now they are extremely high for some reason!

One of the units in my complex is going for 1400 or 1500 here shortly in Los Alamitos next to Long Beach. There are a bunch more vacancies on Howard and Green in Los Al and they aren't going too fast.

I do imagine pricing is from summertime.

I've been looking at houses in Temecula and I brought 40 houses to my realtor to view, only 5 were not in escrow or did not have serious offers on the table. The one I bid on had a full cash value offer yesterday(220k). Houses are moving just like apts.

I should have indicated that the pricing I mentioned for rent in Los Alamitos is pretty flat over the past 3-4 years. 1400 or so seems to be the average for a decent 2bd

In Oxnard on the North side ( Northside = Nicer) apartments run in the $1,290 to $1,800 range for a 2 bed 1 bath. One of my brothers rents a new 1 bedroom unit with a single car garage, washer dryer, and every everything else for around $1,600 at the new Riverpark Development. Most of Riverpark is townhomes and patio homes, but they have a new Apartment complex also. On the southside of Oxnard you can find a 2 bed 1 bath for $1,000 if you look hard.
