Can someone tell me a little bit about Charter cable internet. I was told there was an installation cost of $49.99 and a $60 deposit. Is this true? Why do you need someone to set up this simple cable stuff? I heard you can bundle it with cable TV. Also, is there a one year subscription for the pricing they give you.

On another note....does anyone know of a month-to-month basis for cheap DSL internet provider in the San Gabriel Valley (Monterey Park, Alhambra, Rosemead).

Thanks

I have charter. I got free installation and 39.99/month for basic cable and internet for 6 months. It's no contract but that's the price I get for 6 months. I'm pretty sure you could get free install if you just call and ask about the specials. They come out to install it because they have to flip the cable switch physically and then they hookup everything for you.

And the deposit is based on your credit score. I didn't have a deposit but if you have moderate credit it will be required probably.

What if you already have cable with them already....do they still need to flip the switch on and how much is a cable modem if you buy one versus leasing. I am only at this place for a couple of months and would prefer to lease the modem.

If you have cable with charter they probably don't need to do anything physically to get internet up and running. I think I lease the modem for like $3 or something per month. Just call them up, they will have all the answers. I'm sure you can work out something that you will find reasonable.

It's $4.95/mo last I checked the bill. I don't particularly care for Charter, but for 2 months just go with them. Don't buy a modem.
