No, this question should not be moved to the Immigration board.

What I am asking is this:

I visited LA recently and it made me uncomfortable. It had to much diversity. It seemed like everyone looked different than me (I am 1/3 black, 2/3 white). I look very much thought like a typical American from the Midwest and people assume I am white.

My problem is I am use to being around just blacks and whites, but not so many from every where else. LA is like a United Nations, people look foreign but they are so many races that I can not feel comfortable there. I feel like an outsider in the greater LA area. I went to a big Regional Shopping Center and everyone looked foreign. I could not find anyone who reminded me of my family. It seemed so strange.

Is the LA area just "to ethnically diverse" in comparison to the average American place?

YOU'RE QUESTION DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME.. YOU ARE 2/3 WHITE BUT YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE " UNITED NATIONS" FEEL IN L.A.

YOU HAVE TO BE SPECIFIC AS TO WHAT YOU DON'T LIKE ABOUT THE DIVERSITY THERE... IS IT BLACKS, HISPANICS, ASIANS WHITES ETC...

I THINK YOU SHOULD BE MORE SPECIFIC.... NO OFFENSE

I suppose it depends on where you come from and what you're used to. I went to school in Texas after having been raised in NY. Texas was culture shock to me but I came to love my life there.

I don't think LA is "too" ethnically diverse but if it makes you uncomfortable, I guess I wouldn't visit LA again.

ETA: what do you mean by "average american place"?

I've traveled all over the US for work and some places are more ethnically diverse than others. Not sure where you're from (that would help us understand your question better) but LA is about as diverse as NYC - you see people of all races. I think it's getting to be like that (albeit on a smaller scale) in most cities of the US.

There's nothing wrong with LA. My advice to you: don't go to LA anymore.

I think he wants a homogenous, boring place full of lackluster, un-ambitious denizens.

Answer?

Minnesota (or anywhere in the midwest for that matter)

Actually, Minneapolis is far from being a place full of lackluster or ambitious people. I can think of some other places that fit that bill better.

It's actually a thriving city with a great cultural/music scene (it's home to one of the world's best symphony orchestras) and some fabulous restaurants (including some of the best Thai and Japanese I've had - I can't find a Thai restaurant in San Diego that beats the one I've been to in Minneapolis).

Maybe some more clarification is in order.

If one looks at the census from counties all over America you will find that 90% of them are dominated in a large part by either Blacks or White people. Most places in America, outside of huge metro areas, really do not have many people from Asia, Africa or the Middle East. Most people are Black or White. With Hispanics in some communities.

A place like LA is full of a United Nations of people from all over the world, no one group dominates. A resident from most places in America would find LA area exotic to say the least.

theres no such thing as "too" ethnically diverse. people are just that, PEOPLE!!! if more people can understand that and appreciate that not all people are one way or another and are different in unique and interesting ways thanks to cultures, maybe we can all move forward with humanity instead of going backwards or staying stagnated.

my advice is if you cant handle it, dont go back.stay in the slowly progressive midwest or back country of your choice. also you just need to stop seeing ethnicity as the main defining thing to a person and maybe you will feel a little better around people who are different from u. personally, im black and thats exactly what im looking for.i have FRIENDS, not acquaintances, of many different races and cultures.i hate the midwest (cincy, ohio and surrounding to be exact).i need to be around some other cultures and different types of people as the norm.the world is not just black and white, so why do we feel that only having that is what makes somewhere "normal" or "average". thats a small-minded way of thinking and is the root of most of our problems in this country.too many people want things to stay one way and are not tolerant or open minded to anything other than that. now im not saying that mexicans should overrun the country and the borders should be open to anyone who wants to come(criminals, gangstas, etc) but we should embrace and enjoy the melting pot.

dont feel uncomfortable. Its just that you have not seen so many different races in one area. You need to go out more.
