Don't ask me why I was perusing Craig's List today, but I was, and I found an ad for my old apartment. I won't link to the ad, because that could be interpreted as slanderous, but I will say this:

When they say "Parking included", it means that and only that. The parking is not gated; no security whatsoever!

"Controlled access building" really means "everyone has access to it, because all of the neighborhood kids have the code!"

"Pool" means "...if you can stomach the screaming, unsupervised children who constantly play in the pool during the summer".

"Laundry on site" means "the machines break down on a regular basis, but the owner is too cheap to replace them".

"Quiet neighborhood" means "...if you don't mind regular screaming fights between other tenants, and if you don't mind living next door to the manager who yells at his family night and day".

All of this can be yours for the very low price of $1,350 for a two-bedroom apartment in a complex that rents to Section 8! I feel so sorry for the next tenant, but I truly hope that apartment stays vacant for the next six months.

I posted this to advise everyone to be extra careful of where they rent and whom from. The owner, who knows that the manager isn't the most couth person, has set it up so that prospective tenants can view the apartment without having to go through him. I'd never rent any apartment without meeting and talking to the manager at great length!
