Default Brea, CA. Good or Bad area?

Heading to LA next wk for a couple of days and was wondering if our hotel was in a ok area. Northern Orange county in Brea for the first part of the wk then later in the wk we come back to LA and are staying close to the Santa Monica peir. Are these fairly safe areas?

Brea is okay. As a precaution at any hotel, though, I recommend that you use the safety deposit boxes (if your hotel has them) for all your stuff you don't want a lightfingered housekeeper to get their hands on. I can't stress this enough.

A dirty little secret is that some properties in the hospitality industry recruit from prisons. If you see any maintenance people with tattoos on their necks or what look like prison tattoos on their arms, time to check out.

I knew someone who lived in Park La Brea and he greatly enjoyed it. I wish I could have lived there too. They have a gate with a kiosk before you are able to enter the complex. I would imagine that would help with safety.

Brea, CA was still a safe area from what I remember when I used to live near there back in 2005. You'll be fine.

Santa Monica pier can have some homeless people and panhandlers wandering around, but I think it is safe. Lots of tourists there all the time.

Park La Brea and Brea, Ca are two entirely different places. The OP understood this, but this individual perhaps does not. This should be in a different thread (although Brea, Ca should technically be in the Orange County section, the santa monica bit notwithstanding).

Sigh.

I was about to comment on this as well. As for housekeeping helping themselves to your stuff, Rob, I don't know where you get your information but I have traveled all over and never had a thing taken from my room. No, I don't think anyone should leave 100.00 bills laying around or expensive jewelry, that is plain stupid and most know this. But I think you are painting a false picture.

Nita

I know nothing about Brea. The only reason I go there is to shop at the Brea mall every few mos or so.

RE: "although Brea, Ca should technically be in the Orange County section"

I've commented previously that the SJ forum should be merged with the SF one.

By the same token, the OC one should be merged with this one.

Both the SJ and OC forums, being that they only capture a portion of the main conurbation in each case, tend to be pretty dead compared with, respectively, the SF and LA forums.
