The streets (mainly Foothill blvd is your other option) are a much worse option in this case. It'd probably take twice as long on Foothill.

Thanks
I made this awful mistake a couple months ago driving on the 210 out to Vegas. Once I hit Pasadena I hear that there was a sig alert just past the 605 Fwy. Checking my traffic map on my iphone, I saw that the traffic backup started in Monrovia. So I got off the freeway once traffic built up to a standstill and took Foothill from whereever that exit is that has the Toys R Us and shopping center and stuff.

I couldn't have possibly made a worse mistake. Foothill barely moved. I looked on the map and found some side streets that went pretty far....disaster. Every side street was jammed. It was horrible and took me almost an hour and a half to go about 3 miles.

So if I were you, I'd just stick to the 210 and plan accordingly.

I would plan on re-locating to Pasadena and stick with the 210 regardless of back-ups.

Yesterdays commute on Foothill Blvd @ 5pm:
1 hour 30 minutes from Myrtle in Monrovia to Irwindale Ave. just east of Duarte.
About 4.5 miles

(Probably had a bit to do with the rain and stop lights that went out but still insane)

Reesey, you have the absolute worst time of day to have to drive east on the 210 to work. I used to work in Pasadena and get off at 6 and drive home to Duarte. I used to average about an hour to get home. If you were to live in Glendale I would give it another 30-40 minutes on top of that hour. I would look into possibly living in Arcadia or Monrovia if I were you. Sierra Madre is for Millionaires.

well I will argue with you on Sierra Madre, it is certainly not for Millionaire, it is a little bit upscale but certainly it isn't any pricier than Arcadia. I am not quite sure where you are getting your ideas. I would agree about Monrovia. You know what, this posting is a couple of months old, I bet the Op has already moved.

Arcadia has cheap apartments near the Westfield Mall and Race Track and on the East side on Duarte Rd., Sierra Madre is more of a community of homes for the wealthy. I had a friend who lived there with his parents about 8 years ago and their place was worth about 2 million+. I was looking at houses in Arcadia a couple years back and saw a nice 3 bed/3 bath for 875K. Plus there isn't much to do in Sierra Madre anyway... just a bunch of old/rich people up there.
